Programme Introduction

IB Primary Years

The PYP is a student-centred, inquiry-based programme for learners aged 3–12 that focuses on conceptual understanding and active engagement. Students take ownership of their learning, while teachers act as facilitators who guide inquiry and deepen understanding.

The learning environment promotes curiosity, collaboration, independence, and belonging, supporting the development of lifelong learning skills.

The IB Learner Profile is central to the programme, shaping students as inquirers, knowledgeable, caring, principled, open-minded, and reflective learners, with these attributes embedded in daily practice.

LEARNING MODEL

The PYP framework focuses on developing the whole child as an inquirer within and beyond the classroom. It is built on strong relationships between the learner, learning and teaching, and the learning community, with transdisciplinary as its organising principle.

The PYP Framework is a 3Dimension framework:

Learning is guided by knowledge within six transdisciplinary themes, ensuring a broad, balanced, and holistic educational experience.

The PYP is a concept-driven curriculum, enabling learners to build meaning by connecting prior knowledge with new understanding and applying it in new contexts.

Approaches to Learning support students in becoming self-regulated learners who set goals, ask meaningful questions, and take ownership of their learning.

Together, these elements develop students as inquirers, and agents, promote global citizenship, and foster a strong sense of belonging.
